Program: UW Men’s Basketball, Coach Linder

Introduction: Terry Moss

Coach Linder is looking forward to this group for the season. The group reminds him of previous teams. They have a couple great new players, one a transfer from Tulsa and a good scorer out of Durango, Colorado.

There have been a few injuries that have taken a couple players out of the game. One will medically DQ and not play after this year. Walters is one of the best placers, but he is injured and will not play in pre-conference games.

The team has a young group of freshmen. They are very young but promising. Coach Linder hopes to surprise other teams early on and thinks conference play will go well.

Coach Linder asks his team to play hard and try hard. The team has a collective 3.4 GPA. There is zero tolerance for C and D grades. It is important for the student athletes to have accountability. The athletes are in many different majors and are a smart group.

The basketball staff has a lot of energy, good communication, and know what it takes to win.

Recruitment and retaining players are still difficult because of the transfer portal. East coast schools are being paid more attention to so UW can recruit from the east. There are just so many more schools out there to recruit from.

UW does not have plans to pay players, but there is a lot of money for players at other schools. The reality is that it has become very expensive for big schools to find and pay players.

It is going to be hard at UW to retain the best players. It is a good time to recruit high school players. The UW staff develop them, but when they get good, they are hard to keep.

Players have agents now. Agents take a big cut, so they attempt to find the best transfer opportunities to make more. Coach Linder noted that loyalty doesn’t really exist anymore with this atmosphere.

•THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
•FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
