Program: WyoText Crisis Line and Laramie Youth Crisis Center, Teresa Arens, Caroline Elik, Gabi Pool, Claira Haggenstad
Introduction: Kelly Neville
The group expressed their thanks for the Taste of Laradise donation. The Laramie Youth Crisis Center supports the building blocks for local and state prevention efforts.
LYCC opened in 1986. It is a free 24/7/365 service. It is for families and individuals navigating trauma, mental health, family disturbance, and child safety concerns. LYCC offers crisis counseling, shelter care for youth ages 0-18, a 24/7 crisis line, independent living skills training, and family coaching.
LYCC works on temporary crisis stays and tries to find solutions for what brought them in. For all issues, the team looks at the family unit to work on the issue.
In 2024, 188 individuals were served. The youth crisis rating decreased by 62% and the family crisis rating decreased by 59%. Their satisfaction rating is 4.66/5.

Families should reach out for any challenge. It doesn’t have to be a large need. Often the needs seen are depression, substance use, family crisis, relationship challenges, gender/identify, anxiety, and child safety.
WyoText is a text-based mental health support service. It is staffed by volunteers around the nation. All are trained by crisis counselors. To start, you text WYO to 741741.
The majority of texters in Wyoming are from Laramie and Natrona counties, and 72% of the texters are youth or young adults.
It helps address gaps in mental health care and provide crisis intervention services. It is an entry point for mental health services and often texters are put in touch with resources in their local area. It is ideal for rural areas. It also works well for youth especially since it is more discrete, offers more privacy, and is a communication method that age group is comfortable with.
In 2024, 10,000 Wyoming youth experiences at least one major depressive episode and 7,000 had serious thoughts of suicide. Wyoming has had 82 conversations since starting in February.
It is an alternative to the suicide hotline, as it can address less immediate needs and connect with local resources. They are also able to collect important data from the texting, without taking any identifiers.
Response: Dave Hansen
‘Response: The Rotary Club of Laramie will make a donation to the public library children’s book fund in the speaker’s name.
NOTE: We Do Not Donate a Book!
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
•FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
•SECOND. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
•THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
•FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
