Program: Anne Mason, Relative Theatrics Company

Anne Mason was told that a theater career in Laramie was impossible, so after college she left to gain experience in the world, and returned to create a theater career in Laramie.

Relative Theatrics’ mission is to present thought-provoking theatre that examines the joining qualities of the human race. Taking artistic risk, they provide a community gathering place where thoughts can be exchanged about society, culture, and the power of creativity.

Relative Theatrics seasons consist of 4 plays that are often Wyoming, regional, or world premieres.  After each play is an optional “chatback” with the actors and director.  RT also does an annual version of David Sedaris’ Santaland Diaries, and a “Read and Rant” session.

What stands out to most attendees is the intimate setting, where the audience is seated on the stage and actually feel like they are a part of the performances.  Due to popularity and limited seating, each performance runs for 6 days and most are sold out.

Relative Theatrics is a 501(c)3 entity and has a 5 member board.  They are currently accepting applications for board members.  Their funding goals are approximately 20% grants, 40% donations, and 40% earned income. Their budget is spread about equally between operations, artist compensation, and production, with a lesser amount to advertising. They are currently looking for corporate sponsorships and private sponsors.

Mason gave a riveting example of acting from one of her productions and invited members to come check out a performance in the 2018-2019 season, which begins in September in the Gryphon Theater.
